First Stories

Arts North West’s First Stories Program partners with First Nations individuals and organisations to strengthen opportunities for Aboriginal artists and communities across our region.

ANW prides itself on embedding Aboriginal perspectives in all aspects of our operations, ensuring Aboriginal voices guide our development and community and cultural protocols are respected.  

ANW creates opportunities for capacity building through creative and professional development as well as support economic pathways and ventures.

We articulate our program delivery through community consultation and strategic advice from our Aboriginal Arts Steering Committee, ensuring Aboriginal people in our area directly inform the development, strategic direction and branding of our First Stories Program. Fostering a deeper connection to Country, culture, and community, honouring the cultural heritage of Aboriginal peoples and enriches the broader community’s understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal arts and culture.

This program is funded by Australian Government’s Indigenous Visual Arts Industry Support (IVAIS) Funding which aims to support core operations and create  a platform from which to generate income from art sales and assist with the economic opportunities with First Nations Creatives in the New England North West.
