National Indigenous Arts Fair Mentorship Program 2024

Arts North West selected Kate Briggs and Amy Allerton to attend the fifth National Indigenous Art Fair (NIAF) 2024 as the organisation's mentees, under the guidance of previous attendees and 2024 Arts North West mentors Tania Hartigan and Adele Chapman Burgess.

The National Indigenous Art Fair (NIAF) is an ethical marketplace that provides a unique opportunity to purchase artworks directly from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists representing remote community-owned art centres from the Northern Territory, South Australia and Western Australia. NIAF 2024 built on the success of the 2023 event, which attracted more than 22,000 visitors over two days.

The National Indigenous Art Fair was held from Saturday 29 to Sunday 30 June 2024, with professional and creative development sessions taking place from Tuesday 25 June to Friday 28 June 2024 on Gadigal Country at the Overseas Passenger Terminal, The Rocks, Sydney.

As part of the mentorship program, all travel, accommodation and meals were provided for the mentors and mentees, while all income from artwork sales at the Fair was returned directly to the participating artists.

The initiative was made possible through the Australian Government's Indigenous Visual Arts Industry Support (IVAIS) Grant Program.
