Regional Tourism Conversations: Ben’s Falls Retreat & Glen Innes Forum
Last week, Arts North West was delighted to join Business NSW New England North West and Glen Innes Severn Council for two inspiring events celebrating regional tourism, creativity, and community collaboration.
Tour + Talk at Ben’s Falls Retreat
On Wednesday 13 August, we were welcomed to the award-winning Ben’s Falls Retreat for an exclusive Tour + Talk. Hosted by operator Allana Price, the event offered a fascinating insight into the story behind this unique retreat, 2024 Regional Winner of the Outstanding Visitor Experience Award.
Allana shared how Ben’s Falls has become not only a destination of excellence in regional tourism but also a hub of connection for the wider community, contributing meaningfully to the visitor economy of New England North West. Guests were treated to a guided tour of the property, complimentary charcuterie, and the opportunity to experience first-hand the natural beauty and vision that makes Ben’s Falls such an outstanding success story.
Regional Tourism & Placemaking Forum, Glen Innes
The following day, on Thursday 14 August, momentum continued at the Regional Tourism & Placemaking Forum hosted at the Glen Innes & District Services Club. This free, half-day forum brought together changemakers, regional leaders, and community members to explore bold ideas for the future of tourism and placemaking in the New England North West.
The program featured an impressive lineup of speakers:
➡️ Cr Margot Davis, Mayor, Glen Innes Severn Council
➡️ The Hon. Kevin Anderson MP, Shadow Minister for Tourism, NSW Government
➡️ Michael Rodrigues, 24-Hour Economy Commissioner, NSW Government
➡️ Fiona Barden, Industry Development Manager, Destination Country & Outback NSW
➡️ Kate McGrath, Employment Facilitator, Local Jobs Program
Through keynote presentations, spotlight talks, and a lively regional panel discussion, participants shared insights on challenges, opportunities, and innovations shaping the future of our visitor economy. An interactive workshop encouraged attendees to contribute local priorities and actionable next steps, followed by a networking lunch that continued the conversation in a collaborative setting.
A Shared Vision for the Future
Across both events, a common theme emerged: the strength of our region lies in collaboration, creativity, and community-led approaches. By celebrating success stories like Ben’s Falls Retreat and engaging in bold regional conversations, the New England North West is charting a course towards a vibrant and sustainable tourism future.
Arts North West is proud to be part of these important discussions, ensuring that arts, culture, and creativity remain central to the region’s identity and visitor experience.
