A major new festival will put connection, creativity and curiosity at the forefront for seniors in the Glen Innes Highlands this coming March.Glen Innes Severn Council has been awarded $10,000 through the NSW Seniors Festival Grants Program, to deliver Re-Wired – a festival for local seniors and carers - proudly funded by the NSW Government in association with Council.
Running from 2-15 March 2026 in Glen Innes, events will be held across Council venues and community spaces, including the Highlands Hub and Glen Innes Severn Learning Centre. Activities will range from digital learning sessions and Tech & Tea cafés to storytelling and oral history recordings, wellbeing workshops, and collaborative art projects.
Each activity has been developed to be accessible, practical, and relevant to the everyday lives of local seniors, with transport support and inclusive pathways ensuring participation for people of all abilities.
Mayor Margot Davis welcomed the announcement, saying “We are incredibly grateful for this $10,000 NSW Seniors Festival grant. It gives Council a wonderful opportunity to say thank you to our seniors for their decades of dedication, commitment and volunteerism by delivering an event filled with positive, accessible activities that strengthen social connections and bring joy to our community.”
“This grant also reinforces Council’s ongoing commitment to initiatives that support our seniors to age well in place, right here in Glen Innes Highlands,” Cr Davis said.
Glen Innes Severn Council joins a select group of regional councils funded under the statewide program, ensuring local seniors have access to new opportunities and support. With a total pool of $200,000 available across NSW, the $10,000 allocation to the region is a strong outcome that will directly benefit older residents and carers in the Glen Innes Highlands.
Re-Wired will be delivered by Council’s Economic Development and Tourism and Glen Innes Severn Learning Centre Teams. The program has been designed to respond to local needs identified through Council’s ongoing engagement with seniors, including requests for more opportunities to build digital confidence, participate in creative activities, and strengthen social connections.
The full program for Re-Wired will be released in early 2026.
