Walcha Council

The Danggadi people lived in this region for about 6,000 years, in the colder months they retreated in the gorge country to the east where fish and animals were plentiful. The tablelands had places for ceremonies and trade of goods, and there are traces of bora grounds near Walcha.

Located on the northern tablelands of NSW, Walcha boasts some of Australia’s most spectacular countryside. The naturally artistic formation of the landscape is complimented by the artistic and culturally rich township of Walcha. Abundant with public art, the Open Air Gallery now boasts close to fifty sculptures, making Walcha the most art saturated town in Australia, with a piece of public art for every 60 of its citizens.
