Description
Stage to Page is a cross-disciplinary exhibition project that explores the rich and diverse landscape of live performance across the New England North West region. The project responds to a fundamental challenge of performance practice: its inherently ephemeral nature. While live performance exists only in a moment, Stage to Page seeks to capture and reinterpret that experience through enduring visual forms, creating a lasting record of regional creative expression.
Bringing together visual artists and performers, the project invites artists to engage deeply with musicians, actors, dancers and other live performers, translating sound, movement, atmosphere and artistic identity into original visual artworks. Through this process, the exhibition examines the relationship between performance and visual culture, making visible what is often transient and intangible.
More than a documentation project, Stage to Page celebrates the interconnected creative ecology of the New England North West. It acknowledges the significant contribution of performers whose work animates theatres, community halls, festivals, galleries, pubs and public spaces throughout the region. These artists are cultural storytellers whose creative practice reflects the character, history and diversity of the communities in which they live and work.
The participating visual artists draw inspiration from performance, costume, gesture, narrative, place and personal connection, creating works that both interpret and honour the performers who inspire them. The resulting exhibition presents a dynamic dialogue between artistic disciplines, revealing how creative practice can transcend traditional boundaries.
Through visual artworks, multimedia content, artist stories and interpretive materials, Stage to Page provides audiences with an opportunity to experience regional performance through a new lens. The project celebrates artistic collaboration, preserves cultural memory and highlights the vital role of live performance in shaping the cultural identity and creative future of regional communities.
