Václav Fiala, a renowned Czech artist, came to Stephen King's Walcha property to make a sculpture for 'Sculpture by the Sea' 2004.

Walcha Council and Walcha Arts Council's decision to buy the sculpture was thwarted when it won the major prize. Fiala returned to make a second sculpture for Walcha and a third entry into 'Sculpture by the Sea' 2005 - which AGAIN won the major prize.

Constructed with coastal hardwood which was milled locally in Walcha.

Walcha is lucky to have Václav Fiala’s ‘Bell Tower’ after previous decisions to purchase his sculptures, (created on local Artist/Farmer, Stephen King’s farm) was thwarted TWICE when those sculptures went on to win the major prize at Bondi’s Sculpture by the Sea 2004 & 2005!!

THE ARTIST:

Václav Fiala completed his studies at the Secondary School of Applied Art in Prague, CZ. He has become a well-known sculptor in his native Czech Republic, with his work exhibited throughout Eastern Europe. He created work for the Socrates Sculpture Park in New York and the Andres Institute of Art in New Hampshire. His minimal, geometric forms contribute to the frontier of architecture by changing the emotions evoked by place. The physical exertion required of Vaclav to create the large-scale sculptures in wood and/or steel attests to his commitment to an intuitive, hands-on, art-making process.
