Uralla Shire Council

The traditional custodians of this land are the Aniwan People. The name "Uralla" was adopted from the language of the Anēwan by the squatters who first occupied the area. It refers to a ceremonial meeting place or camp. The Aboriginal history of this area dates back at least 50,000 years.

The New England Highway passes through the Shire and the township is located at the intersection of the New England Highway and Thunderbolts Way, 465 kilometres (289 mi) north of Sydney and about 23 kilometres (14 mi) south-west of the city of Armidale.

While only a small community, Uralla Shire is home to many creatives, artists, makers and people who are passionate about preserving and sharing the rich history of their area.
