Armidale COLONIAL STORIES WALKING TOUR

Armidale's Colonial Stories Historic Walking Tour takes you through the city's historic centre to meet the characters and events that shaped a developing Armidale. Designed by Sarah Newsome with event support from Arts North West, the tour premieres at Creative Streets Armidale on Saturday 17 October 2026. It then runs on 24 October, 31 October and 7 November.

The tour opens with a Welcome to Country at the Celtic Cross. From there you'll visit the original lock-up and old courthouse, grand civic buildings, hotels and hidden corners. Along the way you'll hear tales of crime and justice, ambition and hardship, colourful characters and remarkable pioneers. The walk finishes at the Armidale Folk Museum.

Arts North West Executive Director Lauren Mackley said: "You can walk down the same street hundreds of times without knowing the extraordinary stories that happened there."

Your ticket also supports local history. Proceeds from Colonial Stories tours go to the Armidale and District Historical Society to support its work preserving and sharing the region's stories, collections and history.

Places are limited and registration is essential, including for the free opening tour. A small registration fee applies for all other dates.
