Community music Soundmap Armidale

Opportunity Description

Dr Alana Blackburn invites musicians and music lovers to a community forum at the New England Conservatorium of Music (NECOM), 122-132 Mossman Street, Armidale, on Thursday 15 October 2026, 6pm to 7.30pm. Alana is facilitating the forum as part of a funded soundmap project in collaboration with NECOM.

‍

Contributions from the forum will help create an interactive Regional Sound Map: a digital map highlighting the spaces and places where the community gathers to share all types of music. Local organisations will be able to share the map, and it will show the impact music has on activating spaces across the community.

Let's talk about:

- Where does music happen in this community?

- Which places feel musically significant?

- What musical activities bring people together?

- What sounds, stories or musical memories represent this place?

Everyone is welcome: musicians, learners, educators, community members and anyone with an interest in music. Being a music lover or keen audience member is enough.

A similar forum runs in Tamworth on Monday 12 October 2026, 6pm to 7.30pm, at the Tamworth Regional Conservatorium of Music, 223-227 Marius Street. For details, contact Alana at alana.blackburn@une.edu.au.
