Arts North West partners with Moveable Type Studio and the Museum of Printing at NERAM to celebrate the region's print heritage

Arts North West will support a live letterpress printmaking activation by Moveable Type Studio at A Winter's Night in Tamworth this Saturday, 1 August, presented in partnership with the Museum of Printing at NERAM.

For A Winter's Night, Moveable Type Studio will bring its Pop Up Press, a trailer-based rig with two presses built as a lighter, morea ffordable way to tour than the studio's full shipping container workshop. The Pop Up Press has already toured widely in 2026, including at the Queensland State Library, Queensland State Archives and the Toowoomba Art Society. The team will be joined in Tamworth by Kelly Lye of Hopscotch Press, along-standing member of the Black Gully Printmakers executive committee, custodians of the Museum of Printing, giving the community a rare chance to see traditional letterpress printing in action.

The activation is a collaboration between Moveable Type Studio, Arts North West and the Museum of Printing at NERAM, recognising the museum's role in preserving and sharing the region's printing history.

“Supporting Moveable Type Studio at AWinter's Night lets us bring a living piece of the New England's printinghistory straight onto the street, where people can see it and ask questions,”said Lauren Mackley, Executive Director of Arts North West. “It's exactly thekind of regional arts engagement we love to back.”

“This region has such a strong letterpress heritage, and it's a privilege to celebrate that alongside theMuseum of Printing at NERAM,” said Clint Harvey, Director and Founder of Moveable Type Studio. “We hope it encourages more people to discover the museum and the work being done there.”
