First Stories: Gadjigadji Program

The Gadjigadji Program is an Arts North West initiative that supports projects contributing to the regrowth of First Nations communities and organisations across the New England North West. Applications are assessed by our Aboriginal-led First Stories Committee.

Gadjigadji backs projects that are well planned, give back to community, and are led by proven artists, arts workers or organisations.

What support is available

Gadjigadji offers more than funding. You can apply for one or several types of support:

• Funding
• Promotion
• Mentoring
• Professional     advice
• Community  and artist connections
• Event opportunities
• Project planning support

Who can apply

Applications are open to individuals, First Nations owned or run businesses, and community organisations delivering projects within the Arts North West footprint.

What the committee looks for

The committee assesses each application on community impact and project viability. Strong applications show:

• a clear, well thought out plan
• real benefit to community, such as cultural knowledge sharing, mentoring, or bringing people together through creative activity
• a lead artist, arts worker or organisation with a track record of community involvement

The amount you request will not affect your chance of approval. Arts North West may not be able to fund your full request.

Key dates and timing

Assesments on applications are made bi-monthly by our Aboriginal-led First Stories Committee. Submitting an application does not automatically mean the applicant will receive funding or project support.

Before you apply

Gather these first. The online form does not save automatically, so we recommend drafting your answers in a separate document.

• At least one letter of support (PDF) from a community organisation, artist or arts worker with a connection to Arts North West
• A project description, timeline and budget, listing key costs such as artist fees, venue hire, materials, travel and marketing
• Examples of your practice, such as artwork photos, past workshops or exhibitions, quotes, or social media and website links

Word limits on the form are a maximum, not a target. We value quality over quantity.

If your application is successful

Your project will be delivered in partnership with Arts North West. As a partner you will:

• report on outcomes such as sales figures and community engagement
• share photos or other visual evidence of the activity, which may appear on Arts North West channels
• include the Arts North West and First Stories logos in all project marketing
