Tambar Springs War Memorial

Officially opened in 1919, the Tambar Springs War Memorial is said to be the very first monument erected in memory of the casualties of World War 1. The Italian marble statue of a young soldier was spearheaded by a local farmer in 1917 after losing his seventeen-year-old son in battle. The monument was restored and rededicated in 2003. It houses the names of ninety-two soldiers, fourteen of whom were lost in battle. Tambar Springs is located just 48 minutes drive from Gunnedah via the Oxley Highway.
