Media Mosaic of tiles on concrete

This functional mosaic seat installation is made from hand-made and commercial tiles, grout, concrete. It was created by Tamworth Regional Art Collective (TRAC) members Emma Stilts, Emma Trigg, Joanne Stead, Jody Blackwell, Jodie Herden and Karen Balsar.

The story depicted by the mosaic starts with the original Aboriginal custodians’ timeless relationship with the river. The sculptural seat emulates the curve of the Peel River immediately behind this site and references an Aboriginal fish trap in its incorporation of rocks worn smooth by the river over time. The story progresses through Tamworth’s agricultural settlement history, depicting some of the town’s historic buildings and bridges. The river’s flow joins each element of the sculpture, taking the viewer on a journey through time.

Located along the Peel River in Bicentennial Park.
