About
Miner's Strike Memorial Light Tower
Fourteen miners stayed underground for a 55-day sit-in strike in 1983. Their action persuaded the NSW Government to take action on the orderly development of the coal industry and the retention of coal jobs through the restructure of the Joint Coal Board. The Light Tower pays tribute to the sit-in that has become known as the “Preston 55-day sit-in”. The memorial sits on the median strip on the
northern side of the Curlewis Hotel.
