About
Brock's Court - The Miner's Memorial
Erected in memory of those who lost their lives in the coal mines, and of several lengthy strikes in underground mines in the area, the Miner’s Memorial statue is in Brock's Court on Conadilly Street. The names of 20 men who died in mining accidents over 89 years are engraved on the monument. Some mines closed during the economic downturn of the 1980s, but several mines still operate in the region today. The monument is the work of well-known sculptor Carl Merten and was dedicated on the 25th of September 2000.
