Liverpool Plains Shire Council

The Kamilaroi people are the traditional owners of the Liverpool Plains region of New South Wales. The area has been home to the Kamilaroi for tens of thousands of years. The Liverpool Plains region has a rich Indigenous heritage that is showcased through local attractions, landmarks, and businesses. The main township is Quirindi with other villages in the Shire including Ardglen, Blackville, Caroona, Currabubula, Parraweena, Premer, Spring Ridge, Wallabadah, Werris Creek, and Willow Tree.

The Liverpool Plains is generally regarded as the richest agricultural region in Australia owing to its rich black soils, which originally supported a mixed grassland vegetation containing both annual and perennial grasses, which early in the region's history were used to feed cattle and sheep and in recent times has embraced and coloured fields of yellow thanks to the annual tourism attraction of the plains of of sunflowers. The large scale silo art adorn the main street and every night it comes to life at its larger-than-life silo animations. This shire also is home to The Australian Railway Monument and Rail Journeys Museum, housed in the historic Werris Creek Railway Station, tells the story of railway life in Australia. The monument also commemorates those who lost their lives working on Australia’s rail infrastructure. Ride on the miniature railway at the Quirindi Rural Heritage Village.
