Armidale Regional Council

The Anaiwan people have lived in Armidale for around 10,000 years. Armidale was also a meeting place for the Dangaddi (Thungutti), Gumbainggari, and Baanbai tribes. Armidale is a city in the Northern Tablelands that is one of the two main epicentres of the NENW. Armidale had a population of 23,967 as of the 2021 census. It is approximately halfway between Sydney and Brisbane at the junction of the New England Highway and Waterfall Way. This gracious university town is the main hub of the New England High Country, and one of Australia’s most elegant regional cities boasting 19th-century churches and heritage architecture mixed with a thriving arts and cultural opportunities at NERAM, The Museum of Printing, Armidale Aboriginal Cultural Centre and Keeping Place and Armidale Art Gallery as well as public art to be discovered throughout the CBD. In addition to the main centre of Armidale and the town of Guyra, the villages located in the area include Ben Lomond, Black Mountain, Dangarsleigh, Ebor, Hillgrove, Kellys Plains, Llangothlin, and Wollomombi.
