LIFE DRAWING WITH A COMEDIAN TOUR HAS BEGUN!

Arts North West On Tour (ANWOT) is excited to present Life Drawing with a Comedian from Laugh Mob, a hilarious show that seamlessly merges the worlds of art and comedy for a one-of-a-kind entertainment experience. This ANWOT Pocket Production promises a chance to bring people together through art and laughter. 

Life Drawing with a Comedian is an Interactive comedy experience that welcomes artists of all abilities. You'll be laughing so hard you won't be able to keep your pencil straight! 😂🤣
It's cheeky, yet classy with a lesson with a lesson of fine art thrown in there. No artistic skills required – bad drawers are more than welcome!

‘TO MY RETURNING…’ TOURING EXHIBITION COMING TO GUNNEDAH

To My Returning is coming to Gunnedah! To My Returning is creative recovery project responding to the 2021/2022 flood events. Through the power of letter writing, people from throughout the New England North West reflected in these events addressing letters directly to the flood waters. Arts North West engaged artists from across the region, to produce artworks that reflected the letters and their own experiences and interpretations of the flood events. The letters contributed and artworks developed are part of a public exhibition, that we invite everyone to come and experience. ‘To My Returning…’ is coming to the Gunnedah Bicentennial Creative Arts Gallery with the Official Opening from 6.00pm Friday 15 March, 2024 and exhibition continuing until 28 April, 2024.

To my Returning… will then tour to Wee Waa Arts and Cultural Community Centre.

GATHER AND TRADE AT NARRABRIGHT

After the ongoing success of our Gather & Trade markets throughout the region, Arts North West is excited to share that we are collaborating with Narrabri Shire Council to bring ANW’s Gather & Trade - Aboriginal Artisans Micro Markets to NarraBRIGHT in 2024!

NarraBRIGHT is the annual illuminated street party of the Narrabri Shire. This is a huge event for the region, with over 5000 visitors coming to be part of the CBD activities that celebrate the vibrant community, CBD and businesses of Narrabri.

We invite any First Nations Aboriginal Artisans from across
the New England North West to be part of the event.

Arts North West will provide all marquees, tables, tablecloths, chairs and signage for the event. We will assist in developing artist biographies and promotional collateral, leading up to the event and any ongoing support as required. Each First Nations Stall Holder will also be paid $200 per site, to assist with any accommodation and travel expenses.

ARTS NORTH WEST AND NAVA WORKSHOPS

Arts North West and the National Association for the Visual Arts (NAVA) are collaborating to deliver three online workshops, covering various topics about the NAVA Code of Practice.

The first online talk will focus on providing critical insights into how First Nations communities can direct and codesign projects, and the importance for communities to see benefits during a project’s progression. This online workshop will be held on Thursday 14 March 2024.

For the second installment in the series, artist and arts worker Sandra McMahon joins us to talk copyright and Intellectual Property.

During the workshop, Sandra McMahon will share her knowledge and experience when working with copyright and Intellectual Property (IP). Whether you are an artist or arts worker, understanding fundamental rights and responsibilities when it comes to Intellectual Property and copyright is critical to sustaining professional practice. Using the NAVA Code of Practice, Sandra will walk through the basic parameters of copyright, the importance of copyright agreements as good practice and licensing work.

For the third workshop, NAVA’s Membership and Projects Officer, Donnalyn Xu, will explore and dissect NAVA’s Payment Standards.

During this the final workshop of this series, Donnalyn Xu will share how to advocate for your worth as an artist or arts worker by understanding industry standards around fees and wages. The session will share insights into how to use NAVA’s Code to appropriately price your work and value your time, including exploring different types of artist fees and wages, and how to reference them in work and practice. Amid rising costs of living, it is essential that artists and arts workers are equipped with the tools they require to continue their practice while also getting paid fairly for their time and work.

ABORIGINAL ARTS STRATEGIC PLAN IS COMING TO MOREE

Arts North West is working on our 2024 - 2028 Aboriginal Arts Strategic Plan and we want to hear from you! We will be working with our Aboriginal Arts Steering Committee to bring our consultation to your community. We want your help to inform how we curate our Aboriginal Arts and Cultural programming and projects for the next four years!

UNDERSTANDING OUR AUDIENCES:
EVENT EVALUATION AND DATA COLLECTION

Arts North West is pleased to introduce our new pilot program ‘Understanding Our Audiences: Event Evaluation and Data Collection’ in 2024.

During a three-month trial period, Arts North West will be offering to collect and collate valuable data from events across the New England North West region. The data collection process includes engaging with attendees via customised surveys designed to capture relevant data from your event including the number of attendees and demographic insights. This information can be utilised by organisers for future events to highlight successes and areas for improvement and to inform decision-making.

CURRENT GRANT FUNDING:

10 March - Regional Arts Australia - 2024 National Regional Arts Fellows
Regional Arts Australia is currently accepting Expressions of Interest from regional artists and arts workers for the 2024 National Regional Arts Fellowship Program.

Six fellowships will be awarded in 2024 with a total funding pool of $100,000. At least fifty percent of the fellowships provided will be targeted to cohorts that Regional Arts Australia has identified as being under-funded or under-represented in the Regional Arts Fund competitive grants program.

11 March - Createability Internship 23/24
NSW artists and arts workers with a disability or who are d/Deaf can do an internship in arts, screen, and culture organisations to help build job opportunities.
Grant amount: If successful, applicants will not be receiving any direct funding from Create NSW and Screen NSW. Instead, they will be employed and paid by the Host Organisations.
Applications opened: 29 January 2024
Applications closes: 11 March 2024, 5:00 pm

17 March - Penfolds Evermore Australia Grant Round
Penfolds is inviting you to apply for a share of $200,000 to support bold and innovative projects that make a contribution to community and culture through the inaugural Penfolds Evermore Grant Round. 

Projects need to be based in or making a contribution to a Penfolds community in Australia, and be within one of the following categories: winemaking/viticulture, food, creative arts (including fashion, visual art and music)

19 March - Internationale Tanzmesse NRW
Apply for support to attend the largest international professional gathering for contemporary dance. Tanzmesse is the largest international professional gathering for contemporary dance. Taking place every two years, the event is attended by up to 2,000 international exhibitors and visitors, and is an important forum for exchange, knowledge transfer and networking.

Creative Australia will support a delegation to attend this event and will have a booth in the Exhibition Space. They also welcome any Australian artists and companies attending on a self-funded basis to join the delegation and any related networking activities.

19 March - Performing Arts Market in Seoul (PAMS)
Apply for support to attend this vibrant international performing arts market in Asia. Creative Australia will support a delegation to attend PAMS. They also welcome any Australian artists and companies attending on a self-funded basis to join the delegation and any related networking activities. 
Amount: $3,000 for applicants based in Australia; $1,500 for Australian overseas-based applicants 

31 March - Australian Lending Right Schemes (ELR/PLR)
Australian book publishers or creators—authors, illustrators, editors, translators and compilers—can be compensated for the loss of income through the free multiple use of their work in Australian public and educational lending libraries.

The deadline for submitting new title claims is 31 March 2024. Title claims submitted after the deadline are placed in the following program year.

9 April - Creative Leadership Program

Are you an artist or creative worker who wants to make change?

Develop your skills, knowledge and potential in the Creative Leadership Program from Creative Australia.

Apply now to receive a $7000 grant for professional development, attend 2 in-person multi-day workshops on leadership and participate in a range of online activities over 18 months. Explore new perspectives and create lasting networks with a diverse group of 35 artists and creative workers.

Creative Australia provides financial and travel assistance, as well as support for access needs, childcare, cultural practices and digital connectivity. Artists and creative workers living in regional and remove locations are encouraged to apply.
