Walaaybaa (HOME) is developed by the Gamilaroi community in Kamilaroi/Gomeroi Country, at Tamworth and Tamworth Regional Gallery working with NSW Department of Education’s Arts Unit and the Art Gallery of New South Wales as part of the program Home: Aboriginal art from New South Wales.

Walaaybaa (HOME) is a regional outreach education program that delivers sustained educational content and experiences introducing local Aboriginal art practice to primary and secondary school teachers, students and their wider communities.

Moonbi Public School
Tamworth South Public School
Walhallow Public School

This year, schools participated in hands on learning with textile workshops facilitated in the Tamworth Regional Gallery Studio with local artists Sophie Honess and Tania Hartigan. Language workshops were delivered by Uncle Len Waters.

Local students have worked to create individual and groups artworks that reflect their connection to country. We are thrilled with the results that the schools in the Walaaybaa (HOME) program have created and we hope you enjoy this exhibition.

Walaaybaa (HOME) is realised as part of the program Home: Aboriginal art from New South Wales; a partnership since 2015 between Wiradjuri community at Wagga Wagga, Wagga Wagga Art Gallery, NSW Department of Education’s Arts Unit and the Art Gallery of New South Wales.

Garden Party art exhibition

Gallery hours are Wednesday to Friday 11-4pm, Saturdays and Sundays 10-2pm.

2023 Summer Show

Wild Kimono Craft Matsuri

A full month of happening is about to take flight at Wild Kimono in Uralla, as a group of local artist /crafter friends take over the old bank for a summer Matsuri (festival)!

Beginning with opening drinks on December 1st and running through to New Year, hand-made useables, wearables, hangables and edibles will tempt the gift-giver with no need to stress about product miles or provenance! There will also be herbs & plants and music in the street, with some great Uralla coffee & cake just a few steps away. So make a day of it and chat with the makers in the quirky and creative village of Uralla!

Silver-working workshop with Richard Moon

Bring an idea, a design and/or a precious stone and make your unique piece of sterling-silver jewellery under skilled supervision in Glen Innes. Richard Moon (resident silverworker at The Makers Shed) offers studio-workshop options for a strict maximum of six people, where you get to decide what you'll create! NOTE: All participants must be aged 15+.

Get across the entire silver-working process with Richard as your guide, from cutting, soldering, heating, cold-connecting, fold-forming, bezel-setting and polishing. The cost includes enough sterling silver for one ring, pendant, brooch or pair of earrings; and a limited selection of raw materials and stones: vintage linoleum, copper, leather, moonstones, freshwater pearls, etc. Design and make something special!

Julia Griffin & Gemma King: Land and Sky

Julia Griffin and Gemma King are Walcha artists and mother and daughter.

They are both printmakers and drawn to the sublime beauty of ink on paper.

Gemma King experiments with multiple layering of colour to make unique reduction and jigsaw linocut prints of the transient nature of the landscape and big skies of Walcha.

Julia Griffin is also a studio painter but more recently has taken to plein air works on paper using oil pastels, remembering the immediacy of the first response when time is limited, and the light is volatile.

Xmas wreath decorating workshop

This Xmas wreath decorating workshop is a different take on front door decoration.

Enjoy a complimentary glass of bubbles and nibbles upon arrival to help get into the Christmas spirit for this fun and crafty workshop.

No prior experience is required, just bring yourself and prepare to have fun with your friends and family. All materials are provided to complete a wreath for this xmas season or just to bling up your front door.

A handmade wreath base made by Kimmie will be provided for you. Your creative addition to dress it up will be colouring in banksia pods in the colours of your choice with water based coloured and glitter pens, we will then add some dried flora, laser cut xmas wooden baubles and a mesh tubing to complete the look.

BEAT OF MY HEART Presented by Tamworth City Dance Academy

Tamworth City Dance Academy’s choreographers explore the concepts of the heart. What makes your heart sing and your soul soar? What makes it break and brings you to your knees or makes it skip a beat? We have been inspired by the family connections within TCDA, bonded both by blood and by choice, and seeing how important our dancers and their families are to each other and to us. This show is for them and about them.

Performed by TCDA’s entire student body, showcasing their talents in classical ballet, jazz, hip hop, lyrical, tap, acro, musical theatre and our beautiful aerial silks, these dancers will shine at the Tamworth Regional Entertainment Conference Centre.

CrossRoads comes to Moree

Desert Pea Media has been running a youth engagement digital media project in Moree throughout 2023 with young adults, community members and local Indigenous knowledge-holders called "CrossRoads".

Coming up on Saturday 9th December, CrossRoads will culminate in a community celebration event - which fuse traditional performance, multimedia, immersive/site-specific theatre, new media (i.e projection mapping etc) and devising celebration techniques (sculpture, lanterns, and creative structures). The events will weave together the content created during the Crossroads Projects through the year, and incorporate cultural performance from schools and community agencies, arts programs, and presentations from around the region. Celebrating community, country, and culture in an authentic and holistic way.

Life Drawing Glen Innes

Life drawing sessions once a month, with Live models. Continuing on Sunday 17th December 2023 1pm - 4pm
Fees are $30 per person. Afternoon tea is included.

Artists are required to bring their own Easel, drawing board, paper, pencils, charcoals, pastels and watercolour paints as necessary (No oil paints). Please also bring your own drop sheet for quick and easy clean up at the end of the session.

Sessions are untutored although assistance is available on request. Improve your drawing skills. Suitable for beginners and experienced artists alike. Artists must be 18 years or over.

We have models signed up for the first 4 months.

We need 13 artists to sign up per session in order to break even. 15 artists would take the pressure off.
