SANDRA GULLY & KIM BIZO - “GELATO GUM-BLOSSOMS TO PLATE” 31st Oct - 28th NOV 2023.

Our next local artists to exhibit at The Gallery are emerging artists Sandra Gully and Kim Bizo.

Sandra @sangully.ig has been drawn to gum leaves (pun intended) for many years: their distinct shape, varieties and trailing habit whether in the trees or fallen to the ground - in pencil, ink, acrylic and watercolour washes. As a kid she explored bush paddocks on foot and horseback, collecting leaves for colour, insect scalls, chopped shapes. Gumtrees are distinctive in our urban streets and soften our skylines.

Kim’s @kbizoart latest playful and joyous collection continues her exploration of the epicurean theme that she so loves. “I’m drawn to food as my subject because I find so much pleasure cooking for my family and friends; sharing a meal is always a celebration and my paintings are a reflection of this. I work from my sunny, country kitchen in Armidale surrounded by many of my favourite props, with coffee never far away.”

Theatre and Open Mic night

This Friday and every first Friday of the month, there is a combined Theatre night and Open Mic event. The Theatre event starts at 5:00 pm, where you can participate in impromptu theatre sports and light script reading. After that, you can stick around for the Open Mic event, which starts at 6:30 pm and goes on till late. It’s a great opportunity to meet fellow creatives and have some fun!

If you’re looking for ways to make the most of this event, here are some ideas:

• Get your creative juices flowing: The impromptu theatre sports and light script reading are perfect opportunities to let your creativity run wild. You never know what kind of story you might come up with!

• Meet new people: This event is a great way to meet fellow creatives and make new friends. You might even find someone to collaborate with on your next project.

• Discover new talent: The Open Mic event is a chance to see some amazing performances from local artists. You might discover your new favourite musician or comedian!

• Step out of your comfort zone: If you’ve never performed in front of an audience before, this is the perfect opportunity to give it a try. The supportive environment will help you build confidence and overcome any stage fright.

Join Tamworth Regional Gallery Staff in a free guided tour of the 5th Tamworth Textile Triennial.

Since the Tamworth Fibre Textile collection began in 1973 artists have interwoven and shared lived experiences and negotiated stories through the materiality of textile practice.

The 5th Tamworth Textile Triennial builds on this tradition with a future focus on the intangible essence of what it means to be human in the fabric of today’s society and will be an opportunity to celebrate Australian textiles practice, for artists to create and explore the relationality and residues of change through a multiplicity of materials, methods and meanings.

Tamworth Powerstation Museum - Steam Engines in Action

Did you know that on the 9th of November the Tamworth Powerstation Museum will celebrate its 35th anniversary and the 135th anniversary of Tamworth becoming the ‘First City of Light’.

On the 9th of November 1888, Tamworth became the first city in the southern hemisphere to have municipally funded electric street lighting. This was 15 years before Sydney!

The new Mayoress Elizabeth Piper switched on a total of 13 ½ miles (21 ½ kms) of electric street lighting.

Join the Museum on the 9th of November from 3pm and see the mighty John Fowler Steam Engines in action or take a guided tour of the Museum and discover more about Tamworth’s history with electricity.

The Tamworth Powerstation Museum aims to provide an experience which can be enjoyed by all visitors including those with disabilities.
The Powerstation Museum is an accessible museum site with wheel chair access via the front entry.
The site and building is heritage listed hence the doorways are slightly narrow but are still wheelchair accessible and disabled access toilets are located at the rear end of the building.

Our friendly volunteers are able to provide guided tours for the vision or hearing impaired and support visitors as required.

COME ALONG TO CAPERS

2023 will be the 11th CAPERS to be held in the Tamworth Regional Entertainment and Conference Centre

CAPERS takes exceptional talent from public schools across the north of NSW and gives these students an opportunity to perform at a major event. Along with these performers are those from kindergarten to year 12 who simply love to sing, dance and play music. No auditions for them, just the opportunity and skill development to give them the experience of a lifetime.

Names like Roshani, Robert McDougall, Felicity, Chasing Bailey and many more have performed at CAPERS before they embarked on the next stage of their career. Many vocalists, dancers and musicians are now performing in professional companies across the world.

CAPERS 2023 will be displaying even more talented students. There is something for everyone in this program: A massed choir; massed dances, tap, and ballet, modern and contemporary; A concert band and musical performers of 80 players: individual items of song, dance and drama. A feature of CAPERS is always the Welcome to Country and Indigenous performances that follow.

This is not ‘a kids show’, it is a professionally produced performance with as much sound and lighting rig used at TRECC as for any event including big screens and broadcast quality video, state of the art lighting with spectacular special effects and all the trimmings of a fully professional show. It has taken 12 months of hard work to put it together and our parents and teachers have been working with the students preparing choreography, making costumes, learning songs and making art works.

Richard Moon (resident silverworker at The Makers Shed) offers studio-workshop options for a strict maximum of six people, where you get to decide what you'll create! NOTE: All participants must be aged 15+.

Get across the entire silver-working process with Richard as your guide, from cutting, soldering, heating, cold-connecting, fold-forming, bezel-setting and polishing. The cost includes enough sterling silver for one ring, pendant, brooch or pair of earrings; and a limited selection of raw materials and stones: vintage linoleum, copper, leather, moonstones, freshwater pearls, etc. Design and make something special!
