TAMWORTH REGIONAL ART GALLERY 466 PEEL STREET, TAMWORTH

The Gomeroi Culture Academy (GCA) proudly presents Dhiriyagu: For Our Elders Exhibition. A collection of local weaving, painting, carvings, language and photographs, that share stories in honour of their Elders’ legacies and this year’s National NAIDOC theme ‘For Our Elders’.

Through the eyes of young Gomeroi people today, journey into the love, strength, family, and cultural connection that has been continuously passed down by their Elders ­throughout generations for over 80,000 years.

This exhibition is open from Saturday 1st July to Sunday 20th August 2023.

This exhibition has been funded by Arts North West through the Australian Government IVAIS Program. 

To commemorate National NAIDOC Week, Arts North West and the Tamworth NAIDOC Committee are collaborating to present the Tamworth NAIDOC Markets. The Tamworth NAIDOC Markets will provide an opportunity for First Nation creatives to share and celebrate culture and showcase the creativity of our region to a broader audience.

The Tamworth NAIDOC Markets will be held in Fitzroy Street Plaza, Tamworth on Saturday 8 July. The Market will run from 10 am until 1 pm.

We are still seeking stallholders, artists & performers who are able to present live demonstrations on the day.

ARTS NORTH WEST ANNOUNCES CASP FUNDING RECIPIENTS

Arts North West would like to extend its gratitude to all the applicants who participated in the 2023 Country Arts Support Program (CASP). We were delighted to receive a significant number of applications this year; however, due to limited available grants, not all could be awarded.

It is with great pleasure that we announce the successful applicants for this funding round:

Arts North West invites you to join us in July at Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre for Regional Futures Artists in Volatile Landscapes Symposium as we aim to explore “What does the future look like?” The one-day symposium is designed to open a discussion and debate around the topic.

Come along as artists, environmentalists, multi-disciplinary creatives, culture warriors and other thinkers discuss the question: “What does the future look like and what is the place of art and creativity in it?” 

Key topics covered on the day will include:

• Interdisciplinary collaborations / Artists as agents of change 

• Culture and Restoration / Artists as Healers     

• Community Engagement / Artists as Mediators  

• Listening Better / Artists as Transceivers    

• Regional – City Divide / Artists as Trail-Blazers

As part of the event, Arts North West is supporting the inclusion of four local artists: Joanne Stead, Alana Blackburn, Tania Hartigan, and Mike Terry. These artists have collaborated to produce compelling responsive artworks that offer unique perspectives on the future of our region.

'A LETTER TO MY RETURNING...'
GIVING A VOICE TO FLOOD-AFFECTED REGIONS

‘A Letter to My Returning…’ is a creative recovery response project; aiming to work with flood-effected individuals, community groups and organisations from the local government areas of Gunnedah, Narrabri, Moree and Tamworth.

Through the power of letter writing, participants are encouraged to address a letter directly to the flood waters. This process provides space to express and process the flood events of 2021/2022.

Arts North West is seeking expressions of interest from ten local artists, hobbyists, creatives and/or historians from flood-affected communities to create artworks and in part, creative documentation that reflect on the flood events that affected the region.

These artworks will draw inspiration from the letters, as well as the artists’ own experiences and interpretations of the flood events and their effects on homes, livelihoods, and the landscape. The letters and artworks will be curated as part of a touring exhibition.

This project has been made possible by the Foundation for Rural Regional Renewal through FRRR.

SEEKING ARTIST WORKSHOP INFORMATION

Arts North West, Northern Inland Community College, community organisations and local government bodies are working together to increase opportunities for artists to teach their practice in our regions & opportunities for communities to gain access to workshops and classes.

Artists interested in hosting workshops are invited to complete the Expressions of Interest form below. We ask that one submission is completed per workshop topic. You can make numerous submissions if you deliver more than one workshop topic.

NEW EXHIBITION AT NERAM: ODE TO OLLEY

NERAM’s new exhibition Ode to Olley celebrates the 100th anniversary of acclaimed Australian artist Margaret Olley’s birth. The exhibition, running from June 23 to July 23 2023, showcases works from the NERAM collection and a selection of rarely exhibited pieces sourced from local private collections. Olley had a strong connection to New England region and NERAM, frequently visiting the region to paint, attend the Gallery, and visit her family. With her generous contribution of 16 artworks to the NERAM Collection, and the ongoing support of the Margaret Olley Art Trust, this exhibition pays homage to Olley's patronage and achievements.

BAMM ART FAIR 2023 EXTENDED DEADLINE

BAMM is inviting artists to participate in the fifth annual BAMM Art Fair to showcase the talent of regional Australian artists. This year, the art fair introduces new competition categories, offering a total of $10,000 worth of prizes for participating artists. Furthermore, all artworks will be available for purchase, with proceeds going towards supporting BAMM's education programs.

Artists can submit their work in three different categories: Landscape, Figurative, and Abstract. Additionally, all artworks will be reviewed by a panel of judges for the chance to win the open Grand Prize.

The deadline for submissions has been extended and will now close on Saturday, July 15. Make sure not to miss this opportunity!

Tamworth Regional Gallery, 466 Peel St, Tamworth NSW 2340 is an artwork drop-off point for the BAMM Art Fair 2023. Drop-off opens from 10.00 am Thursday 6 July 2023 to 2.00pm Sunday 16 July 2023. All artwork must be wrapped, with all the required information, and ready for transportation.

CURRENT GRANT FUNDING

2 July - Australia Post Community Grants
Australia Post Community Grants support projects that connect people and improve mental wellbeing in local communities.

Local community groups create positive change in countless people’s lives. To help them deliver for their communities, we award Community Grants of up to $10,000 each year to fund community led, local projects. Projects are eligible where:

• The primary purpose of the project is to improve mental health and mental wellbeing outcomes of a community.

• The project will help people meaningfully connect in their local community for improved mental health and mental wellbeing outcomes.

• The project is a locally led and locally delivered project that aims to improve mental health and mental wellbeing outcomes of a community.

If you're part of a community group that has a great idea to support the mental wellbeing of people in your community, we invite you to apply for a Community Grant.

3 July - Emerging Artist Funding Program – Round 3 |
Applicants may seek funding for professional development travel/projects of up to $15k. Project applications will be accepted for activities within Australia however, the Trust will continue to prioritise the funding of international professional development opportunities. Through the Ian Potter Cultural Trust for activities after the 15th of December 2023.

4 July - MATCH Lab
MATCH Lab is our matched funding program for independent artists and groups. It’s for artists looking to run a fundraising campaign, and build their fundraising and arts business skills. It supports artists to increase their knowledge of philanthropy and arts partnerships, develop broader arts business knowledge and create sustainable sources of revenue for their work into the future. MATCH Lab is more than just a funding program; it emphasises long-term skills development. If you’re successful, you’ll take part in a professional development clinic AND be eligible for matched funding for your fundraising campaign.Applications for MATCH Lab 2023/24 open on 4 July, 2023.

4 July - Arts and Disability Initiative 2022-24
This program is for d/Deaf artists or arts workers, or artists or arts workers with disability, seeking to undertake a project or activity to advance their practice, skills or career.

4 July - Plus 1
Plus1 is our dollar-for-dollar matched fundraising program, designed to boost the fundraising efforts of small to medium not-for-profit arts organisations.

5 July - EOI’s close - Growing Regions Program – Round One
The Growing Regions Program – Round 1 (the program) will run over 3 years from 2023-24 to 2025-26. The program was announced as part of October 2022 Budget.

The program will deliver community and economic benefits by investing in community-focused infrastructure which revitalises regions and enhances amenity and liveability throughout regional Australia.

The objectives of the program are:

• constructing or upgrading community infrastructure that fills an identified gap or need for community infrastructure;

• contributing to achieving a wide range of community socio-economic outcomes; and/or

• is strategically aligned with regional priorities.

The intended outcomes of the program are:

• delivery of community-focused infrastructure that contributes to local and regional priorities;

• provision of infrastructure which benefits the community by improving equity and supports diverse social inclusion;

• to contribute to the achievement of broader Government priorities such as net zero emissions, gender equity, and/or First Nations priorities; and/or

• growing local economies and enhancing amenity and liveability in the regions.

Growing Regions Program Round 1 will be delivered through a two-stage selection process. Applicants must first submit an Expression of Interest at Stage 1 and if successful, applicants will be invited to submit a full application at Stage 2.

To be eligible you must:

• be a not-for-profit organisation with a current Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission’s (ACNC) registration or Office of the Registrar of Indigenous Organisations (ORIC) registration; or

• be a local government agency or body.

14 July - Screen NSW – Industry Support: Industry Development Program
The Industry Development Program provides funds to organisations that create professional development opportunities for NSW screen practitioners at various stages of their career.

15 July - Australian Government International Exhibitions Insurance Program
The Australian Government International Exhibitions Insurance Program provides funding to offset the cost of insurance for eligible international exhibitions touring to Australia.

17 July - Audience Development Fund
The Audience Development Fund (ADF) offers public galleries in NSW assistance in targeting and developing new audiences. It encourages galleries to create innovative public programs that engage artists and the community. The fund is designed to support galleries to develop and trial new models for engaging audiences that will increase immediate and future attendance, access and participation.

Funds can be used for costs that support the development and implementation of public or educational programs, provide seed funding to trial new models for public engagement and/or build new partnerships for audience development.

28 July - The Bennelong Foundation - creating a healthier, more productive and inclusive community
Whilst the Bennelong Foundation has a number of areas of interest, generally, it strives to support causes, organisations, and projects that possess certain principles and/or criteria. Grant Seekers, before you start, we recommend conducting a self-check by carefully considering if your project aligns with our primary focus areas and meets our funding criteria.

14 August - Regional Arts Fund – Project Grants
The Project Grants will fund high-quality arts projects benefitting regional or remote artists, arts workers, audiences and communities. The focus of the project could include any area of creative practice, multiple art forms or cross-disciplinary practice. Up to $30,000

Eligible entities under RAF:

• Individuals; 

• Australian Incorporated Organisations including Incorporated associations such as

• Not‐for‐profit community associations incorporated under state or territory legislation;

• Companies limited by Guarantee (CLG’s);

• Cooperatives, registered under state or territory legislation;

• Indigenous Corporations;

• Local Government Organisations; and

• Auspicing - an eligible entity may auspice applications for ineligible organisations (for example unincorporated groups).

29 October - Museums and Galleries NSW - Skills Development Grants
Skills Development Grants provide funding to volunteer museums and museum networks for regional or state-focused skill development training and networking events.

31 December 2024 - Regional Investment Activation Fund - Stream 2
The $110 million Regional Investment Activation Fund will co-invest with eligible entities on projects that will deliver significant economic, social and/or environmental benefits for a priority industry or location.   
Stream Two of the Regional Investment Activation Fund grant funding may be used for capital and other expenses directly related to the delivery of eligible projects. This may include:

• Purchase of land (if necessary for the project and suitable alternatives to rent do not exist)

• Purchasing, constructing, installing and/or commissioning new plant, equipment  and/or machinery

• Purchasing, constructing, establishing and/or fitting out new facilities, buildings or hubs

• Purchasing technology and/or intellectual property (IP) required to undertake the project

• Upgrading existing facilities, buildings, plant, equipment, machinery and/or technology where necessary to deliver the project and achieve its outcomes

• Cost of contractors to construct new buildings and facilities

• External project management and administration costs up to 10% of project cost

• Contingency costs up to 25% of project cost

• Eligible costs are incurred once both parties have signed a Funding Deed.

21 July 2023 - THE MAN IN THE PARK MONOLOGUE WRITING COMPETITION

Through BMEC’s Local Stages program, BMEC is planning on creating a new touring theatre production of a small series of monologues under the title The Man in The Park. We are looking for regional playwrights to script a monologue somewhere between 5-10 minutes in length. The monologue is to be performed by only one actor.
