We have some incredible activities lined up this month at Arts North West. On Saturday, June 8, we'll be in Warialda for the Myall Creek Massacre Memorial events. We'll honour the strength, resilience, and creativity of First Nations people with Gather & Trade, our renowned First Nations market, alongside a Memorial Exhibition featuring works from prominent First Nations artists from across the region.

Our amazing mentors and mentees are heading to the National Indigenous Art Fair in Sydney. This event is a remarkable platform for our Indigenous artists to showcase their incredible talents and ensure their voices resonate widely. Beyond merely displaying their artwork, this fair provides a vital opportunity to build connections, celebrate cultural diversity, and honour the narratives that enrich our shared heritage.

'MYALL CREEK MEMORIAL EXHIBITION' AND 'GATHER & TRADE: ABORIGINAL ARTISAN MICRO MARKETS' EVENTS ON 8 JUNE, 2024.

Arts North West is partnering with Ceramic Break Sculpture Park in Warialda to deliver the 'Myall Creek Memorial Exhibition' and 'Gather & Trade: Aboriginal Artisan Micro Markets' on 8 June, 2024 as part of the 2024 Myall Creek Memorial Events.

The memorial events pay tribute to the strength and resilience of First Nations people in the face of devastating colonial actions and a reminder of the importance of truth telling about Australia’s black history. This event is an opportunity for communities to recover, reconcile and share in First Nations creativity, living culture and stories.

Join us at the Ceramic Break Sculpture Park, from 9am - 5pm on June 8 (THIS SATURDAY!)

See our brilliant stallholders below, there will be a beautifully curated array of First Nations arts available to purchase on the day, as well as food and drinks on site.

ARTS NORTH WEST - CASP GRANTS 2024

Arts North West is thrilled to announce the availability of grants through the Country Arts Support Program (CASP) for individuals, arts community groups, and arts organizations in the New England North West region. Funded by Create NSW and administered by Regional Arts Development Organisations, CASP provides small grants of up to $3,000 to support community arts and cultural development in regional NSW.

The goals of the Country Arts Support Program are to support locally determined community arts and cultural activities, enhance access to a variety of arts programs for regional groups, promote cultural identity expression within communities, and generate social and economic benefits through training, employment, and promotional opportunities. CASP also aims to foster appreciation for cultural diversity, strengthen the sustainability of community arts organisations, and boost their resilience.

Arts North West encourages applicants from the New England North West region to apply for CASP grants to nurture their creative projects and enrich the local arts and cultural scene.

The program is open for applications from 15 May 2024.

You must be an individual, group, a not-for-profit arts-based organisation in an LGA within the Arts North West footprint:
Armidale Regional, Glen Innes Severn, Gunnedah Shire, Gwydir Shire, Liverpool Plains Shire, Moree Plains Shire, Narrabri Shire, Tamworth Regional, Tenterfield Shire, Uralla Shire and Walcha Council.

2024 ABORIGINAL ART AND HEALTH KEY THINKERS FORUM

Friday 15th June

The 2024 Aboriginal Art & Health Key Thinkers Forum will be facilitated by Professor Tom Calma AO FAA along with several Aboriginal researchers and artists including Kisani Upward, Reakeeta Smallwood and Felicity Chapman. They will be presenting on current and emerging innovations in Indigenist methodologies and research practices. This year’s Key Thinkers Forum will have a particular focus on artsbased research methodologies, offering a chance for attendees to participate in an arts informed networking event on Day 2.

presents an opportunity for local artists to host small workshops and showcase their arts & crafts for sale.

Artists are encouraged to come along to the Thursday forum at the Oorala Centre, to share their stories and hear about the ever-growing work in Aboriginal health and wellbeing research!

NAVA understands the importance of prioritising mental health and wellbeing, especially within the arts sector. That’s why we strongly encourage you to participate in Support Act’s Mental Health and Wellbeing in the Cultural and Creative Industries 2024 survey.

Support Act wants to hear directly from visual artists and arts workers to understand the issues impacting your mental health and wellbeing, from cost of living and performing pressures to workplace safety, the ongoing effects of the pandemic, and which services and supports you turn to for help.

Your input will help shape Support Act's programs and services, including the Support Act Wellbeing Helpline. Your feedback will also provide valuable insights for both the sector and federal and state governments.

All online survey submissions are anonymous and completely voluntary. Survey closes Tuesday 18 June 2024.

VISUAL STORYTELLING + PERSONAL BRAND WORKSHOP WITH THE LOCAL JOBS PROGRAM

Unlock your potential and stand out in today's competitive job market with the Visual Storytelling and Personal Brand workshop.

This 3 hour workshop equips participants with:

⭐ Awareness of digital footprint and strategies to craft their personal brand to enhance future employment opportunities

Arts workforce survey - SaCSA/Creative Australia

The Department of Employment Workplace Relations (DEWR) has established industry-specific Jobs and Skills Councils to better understand and address labour and skills shortages across the workforce. Services and Creative Skills Australia (SaCSA) are the Jobs and Skills Council representing the Arts, along with the Personal Services, Retail, Tourism and Hospitality sectors.

Creative Australia has been contracted by SaCSA to conduct an Arts Scoping Study to assess the workforce issues and skills needs of the creative workforce. Findings from this study will inform SaCSA’s first Workforce Plan and, later, a series of training packages to address needs in the creative sector.

This survey is an important component of the Arts Scoping Study. By completing this survey, you will be providing valuable insights to help inform contemporary priorities for our sector and the government’s understanding of current and upcoming skills challenges.
