ARTS NORTH WEST MICRO GRANTS
APPLICATIONS CLOSING SOON!

There is still time to apply for an Arts North West Micro Grant. The grants are valued up to $1,000 for independent professional practising artists and arts organisations across all art forms. Applicants can apply for funding to support your creative endeavour!

'A LETTER TO MY RETURNING...'
- LETTER SUBMISSIONS REQUIRED -

Arts North West is pleased to announce local artists Maree Kelly, Audrey Fogg, Marie Low, Lena Smith, Jo Duck, Lisa Marple, Tania Hartigan, Ethan Towns, Jade Punch, Alyssa Barwick, Helen Stanley and Amy Canfield will be developing a body of work to respond of the flood events of 2021/2022 as part of the project ‘Letters to My Returning’

These artists will also respond to the letters submitted by individuals, community groups and organisations throughout the region who have been flood-affected, as part of the project. The letters and artworks will be curated as part of a touring exhibition with regional locations to be confirmed. SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT
- MURAL ARTIST EOI-

Arts North West are currently seeking Mural Artists from the New England North West to develop artwork to be part of the roaming mural component of our CBD activation project ‘Something to Talk About’

If you have delivered murals in the past and are looking to increase your opportunities to expand your practice throughout the region, then this project is perfect for you!

Each artist will be paid to develop a roaming canvas (1.2m x 1.2m) to be part of numerous CBD activation events throughout the region. We are offering artists the paid opportunity to showcase their creative style and provoke conversations with the audiences about possible future mural projects.

Come hear globetrotting jazz/world music fusion from some of Australia’s & our region’s finest. We look forward to the premiere of INLAND ENSEMBLE - regional NSW’s first intercultural music ensemble, touring Europe in May 2024.

Arts North West is partnering with Blak Markets to be part of their market event in Moree at Jellicoe Park on Sunday 29 October 2023.

We are calling for First Nations artists, craftspeople, and cultural artisans from the New England North West to register for a market stall and be part of this nationally acclaimed event.

Participants can register through the stallholder link below and Arts North West will also be able to offer a payment of $200 per art stallholder participating in the event.

FREE NATIONALLY RECOGNISED TRAINING
FIRST AID COURSE

9.00am – 4.30pm Wednesday 18 October, 2023
at Tamworth Community College, 175 Peel Street, Tamworth NSW 2340

Are you over 15 years of age? Not working full-time? Live in NSW? Do you run events? Participate or facilitate creative or community workshops? Or do you simply want to upskill?

Through completing a first aid course you will gain the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response, recognise and respond to life-threatening emergencies and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines. During this practical course students will be required to perform effective CPR on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor, an infant resuscitation manikin placed on a firm surface, and follow the prompts of an automated external defibrillator (AED).

THE WYNNE PRIZE REGIONAL TOUR
KICKS OFF AT BAMM!

BAMM the very first venue to ever host the Wynne Prize outside of its home of the Art Gallery of NSW. This touring exhibition is an opportunity to see the finalists in the Wynne Prize 2023. It marks the first time Australia’s oldest art prize will tour regional New South Wales in the prize’s 125-year history.

The annual Wynne Prize was first awarded in 1897 in honour of the official opening of the Art Gallery of New South Wales at its present site. Judged by the trustees of the Art Gallery, the prize is awarded to the best landscape painting of Australian scenery or for the best example of figurative sculpture by an Australian artist.

The Wynne Prize reflects the diversity of figurative sculptural practice, while the paintings are a dynamic reflection of Australian artists’ response to the land, reflecting contemporary aesthetics, environmental and stewardship concerns, and conceptions of Country.

NEW YOUTH PROJECT - HORIZONS

The Regional Arts Network, made up of the 15 Regional Arts organisations across NSW is embarking on a new State wide project for regional youth called Horizons: Creative Industries Career Launchpad.

Horizons is a creative industry mentoring and career development program for NSW regional youth. The project will run over 18 months and will support a total of 75 young people from across NSW. The project aims to support to young people wanting to pursue a career in the creative industries. It will also provide participants with new pathways to explore work and study opportunities in the creative industries.

Features of the Horizons Project include:

✨Participants will be paired with a mentor who is a practicing artist or creative industries person working in Regional NSW

✨Work with your mentor to codesign your program according to your needs and goals throughout  2024 

✨Participants will receive a stipend of $750 just for participating in this project. Approved travel expenses and associated material costs will also be covered.

✨The 75 participants from across NSW will have the opportunity to work on a collective showcase that addresses pressing issues for regional young people.

NEW EXHIBITIONS AT NERAM

What a busy time in Armidale! The New England Regional Arts Museum has four new exhibitions on display all starting from September 29, 2023. The exhibitions feature works from local artists and collections.

Inspiration and Iterations
✨September 29, 2023 - February 4, 2024
Culminating NERAM’s 40th anniversary year is an exhibition celebrating the collections and many of the wonderful artists NERAM has worked with over the years. Inspiration and Iterations features 40 works selected from NERAM’s collections, along with 40 original contemporary responses by invited artists. The exhibition not only highlights much-loved works in the collection but also outstanding work by established, emerging, and student artists that have an ongoing connection to NERAM and its impact and legacy.

Adopt An Artwork
✨September 29 - November 12
NERAM is proud to present another iteration of its highly popular Adopt An Artwork program. The Adopt An Artwork program was launched in 2015 to support the ongoing preservation of artworks across the NERAM collections, now and into the future. Since the program began, over 155 artworks have been adopted for treatment. This exhibition showcases a selection of works that have undergone preservation treatments over the past two years, provides an overview of the causes of deterioration affecting museum collections, and offers a new range of artworks from NERAM available for adoption.

Drawn to Place – A shift in the landscape: Alex Asch, Mariana del Castillo, Patsy Asch
✨September 29 - November 12
The artists in Drawn to Place: A shift in the landscape share intimate relationships (mother/son, husband/wife, mother-in-law/daughter-in-law) while also sharing a commitment to the environment and to social justice in their arts practice. This exhibition focuses on the Australian landscape and its transformation since the artists’ first contact in the 1970s to present ecological shifts driven by climate change and human intervention. Themes revolve around environmental degradation, yet also hint at the possibilities of a more sustainable future.

Liz Powell: Objects of a Different Archaeology
✨September 29 - November 12
Tenterfield printmaker Liz Powell takes archaeology for a ride through the New England tablelands combining botany, early domestic labour, farm machinery and history. She uses the study of native plants, endangered species and the impact of grazing and weeds to explore the attempts of settlers and explorers to domesticate and pastoralise the region. Objects of a Different Archeology encompasses etching, relief and mono printing, drawing, stitching, and the Korean paper-making technique of joomchi.

BODY OF WORK EXHIBITION
AT THE WEE WAA COMMUNITY ARTS & CULTURAL CENTRE

A stunning collection of 14 Mannequins reimagined by talented artists from around the New England North West, showcasing a vast array of mediums and arts practices will be opening at the Wee Waa Community Arts and Cultural Centre TOMORROW - October 6!

Opening Night begins from 6pm, Friday 6 October, 2023.

The exhibition features the mannequins & works of:

CURRENT GRANT FUNDING

10 October - Playing Australia Project Investment

Playing Australia Project Investment supports performing arts tours to reach regional and remote communities across Australia. The program supports net touring costs and other designated costs associated with tours. There is no limit on the amount that can be requested. The next round closes Tuesday 10 October 2023, 3pm AEDT for projects starting after 1 January 2024. There are two other rounds open for projects starting in 2024.

10 October 2023 - (re)situate Biennale Delegates Program

The program will facilitate exchange of ideas, catalyse new perspectives, and support the seeding of future projects and collaborations. Participants will connect with artists, producers and curators from Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art (face-to-face), Yokohama Triennale (online), and Venice Biennale (face-to-face).

12 October 2023 - Australian Heritage Grants

The Australian Heritage Grants program is the Australian Government’s flagship heritage-funding program. It provides ongoing support to protect and promote National Heritage-listed places. National Heritage-listed places that have been recognised for their natural, Indigenous or historic heritage values are eligible to apply.

Lights On, Doors Open’ – Stipend Program Supporting Volunteer-led Museums in NSW
The program has been established to relieve the pressures faced by volunteer-led museums and Aboriginal cultural spaces in NSW and aims to support eligible organisations, reduce the burden of constant fundraising, and allow them to focus on collections, maintenance, and best practices. Grants of $2,000 are available for eligible applicants. Up to 113 organisations will benefit from this initiative. Note: Funding will be allocated based on the order of eligible applications received until funds are exhausted.
