ARTS NORTH WEST FIRST NATIONS COMMUNITY CONSULTATION SESSIONS FOR OUR 2024 - 2028

'A LETTER TO MY RETURNING...' CURRENTLY ON EXHIBITION IN GUNNEDAH

‘A Letter to My Returning…’ is a creative recovery response project aiming to work with those who have been affected by the flood events of 2021/2022.

Through the power of letter writing, everyone was invited to address a letter directly to the flood waters as part of a community engagement activity. Arts North West engaged local artists from flood-affected communities to create artworks and creative documentation that reflect on the flood events and the letters submitted. The regional artists who have been part of the project, and who have been featured in the exhibition include:

Maree Kelly, Audrey Fogg, Marie Low, Lena Smith, Jo Duck, Lisa Marple, Tania Hartigan, Ethan Towns, Jade Punch, Alyssa Barwick, Helen Stanley, Mark Washington & Amy Canfield.

The letters and artworks have been curated as part of a touring exhibition ‘To My Returning…’. This exhibition has been at BAMM in Moree and is currently open at The Gunnedah Bicentennial Creative Arts Centre until the 28 April, 2024. The exhibition will then travel to the Wee Waa Arts, Culture and Community Centre, with the opening night on 3 May, 2024 and the exhibition continuing until 1 July, 2024.

'SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT - ROAMING MURALS ARE COMING TO ARMIDALE

Arts North West is touring our ‘Something to Talk About - Roaming Murals’ to Armidale this weekend in the Barney Street Mall on from 9.00am Saturday 6 April, 2024 as part of the ‘Armidale Autumn Festival’.

The ‘Armidale Autumn Festival’ festival has been an institution and beacon for civic pride in the city of Armidale for more than 30 years, and includes the hugely popular street parade from 12.30pm followed by an eclectic array of talented local musicians and performers from around the New England featuring everything from bagpipes to lively jazz music, local performers, artists and school groups will thrill crowds with their talents into the late afternoon .

Armidale Regional Council (ARC) has partnered with the New England Conservatorium of Music (NECOM) who will be running the Autumn Festival concert stage. The concert will commence with the Armidale Electric Orchestra followed by a number of school groups including musical items from the PLC and TAS jazz bands. The Armidale Pipe Band and highland dancers will be adding a Celtic flavour to the afternoon’s performance and the day will be wrapped up by the super talented New England Wind Ensemble. YARN BOMBING THE NEW ENGLAND NORTH WEST

Join us for some social yarning, free knitting and crocheting lessons, yarn bombing information, and a light morning tea. You can bring along a project you have been working on or just yourself! All yarning levels welcome.

Do you want to contribute to the Yarn Bombing Project Moree?
The Moree Community Library is a donation station where people can drop off granny squares, knitted items, attempted projects or unwanted yarn.

The donation station is also a space you can pick up yarn to get your yarning journey started! All shapes and sizes accepted!

TABULAM: TRAIL OF SOUND AND LIGHT

Arts North West is partnering with Realartworks.Inc, Tabulam artists and Community on a performative trail of light and sound through Tabulam. See the everyday transformed through vibrant Interactive installations, live theatre and original music exploring the notion of Home.

For one night only from 6.00pm Saturday 25 May, 2024 the town will be transformed into an eclectic playground of creative activity including poetry, painting, printing, movement, music, projection making and more. This is a free inclusive event.

As part of this project, free creative community workshops will commence in Tabulam from the 18 - 21 April 2024.The content created will be shown during a performative trail of Light and Sound through Tabulam on Saturday 25th May 2024!

We would like to involve people who have a connection to Tabulam/Jubullum as artists and community participants to take part in these free and inclusive workshops.

A Realartworks.Inc creative project in partnership with Kyogle Council, Arts Northern Rivers, Arts North West ,The WhereHouse and Bioluminescence.

UNDERSTANDING OUR AUDIENCES:
EVENT EVALUATION AND DATA COLLECTION

Arts North West is excited to be delivering the 'Understanding Our Audience: Event Evaluation and Data Collection' program over 2024. This program involves a structured process, where the Arts North West team will collect valuable feedback at local events through surveys and patron interactions to collect essential data such as attendee numbers and audience demographics and more. This data is then provided to the event organisers. Through this data collection and valuable information, event organisers will be empowered to enhance the quality of their events and formulate more informed decisions for future engagements as well as advocate for funding and have a better understanding of audience demographics.
