Songs of Darkness and Light: Music for Lute, Recorder and Soprano
The lute - pear-shaped, bent-necked, and rather odd to modern eyes - was once the most popular instrument in the Western world, and was believed to have the power to move the soul to the lightness of joy and to the darkness of grief. The lute has since made a comeback over the past few decades, with artists from Dame Emma Kirkby to Sting discovering its power to bring to life old music and also to present a fresh new twist on more modern songs.
Come hear this amazing instrument played by UK lutenist Roxana Gundry with recorder player Alana Blackburn and soprano Hester Wright, as they perform music by Dowland, Danyel, Caccini and more. Stay and enjoy a glass of wine after the concert with the musicians.
