Oorala Art Exhibition
An exhibition of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Art
Wed 18 Oct – Tues 7 Nov, 2017
LOCAL ARTISTS NEEDED FOR EXHIBITION
In celebration of our 30th anniversary, the Oorala Aboriginal Centre, UNE is inviting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists from communities across our region to be part of a 3 week exhibition. This is an opportunity to showcase Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander paintings, photographs, weavings and sculptures to all those who attend the Celebrating 30 Years events.
Arts are the lifeblood of a thriving and successful community, connecting the past, the present and the future. Within this rich tradition, cultural knowledge has been passed on and through the passage of time contemporary expressions have emerged and created a diversity many artists show in their work today.
This exhibition will include the bark paintings recently added to the Oorala Art Collection, originally from Milingimbi Island, Arnhem Land, dating back to the 1960’s along with artefacts from Earl Page College.
The exhibition is to include a minimum of 2 works per artist, with no commission charged on any sales from the exhibition.
